How does sliding-scale billing work ?

Under the sliding scale system, fees may be significantly reduced depending on your circumstances. e.g. For individuals who are unemployed or job hunting, I generally charge $125 per session ($125 Fee – Medicare Rebate ($84.80) = Approx $40 out of pocket per session). The exact amount is determined on a case-by-case basis. Get in touch with me before your first session to discuss this.

How Do Medicare Rebates Work ?

Medicare will provide a rebate of $84.80 per session for up to 10 sessions a year with a valid referral from a primary care provider (GP, Psychiatrist etc.). You will need to book a consultation with your GP to develop a mental health care plan. Once you have your referral documents you MUST bring them to your first session to receive the rebate. If you need more information about Medicare referrals, contact your GP. You can also call us at 1300 059 666 or send me an email for assistance.

Once you get a referral from your GP, you are eligible to receive a rebate for 6 sessions with a psychologist. If you require more sessions, your GP may refer you for an addition 4 sessions (Total 10 sessions per calendar year maximum). Sessions will be charged at the full amount after which your rebate can be processed either on the spot through our HICAPS system or through the traditional way of going to medicare directly.

How does Private Health Claiming Work ?

Private health insurance offers significant rebates depending on your level of cover and extras etc. From experience, this ranges anywhere from $50 – $165 but you should always check with your provider before you book a session with a psychologist. You do not need any referrals to claim private health rebates but you might need to contact your individual provider and check with them if your cover includes psychological services. While I am a registered provider with almost all the major health funds, it’s always a good idea to let me or my practice manager know which health provider you are with just in case.
